Tête d’Or Park, the green lung
At one hundred and seventeen hectares, Tête d’Or Park is one of the largest urban gardens in France. You can rent a rowing boat on the lake, linger in front of the flamingos of the free zoo, walk to the flowery botanical greenhouses. A picnic in the shade of a cedar, a rose garden in June: this is a date that breathes. The people of Lyon gather here as soon as the sun returns.
Croix-Rousse, the working hill
On the hill that works, the former silk workshops have left tall-ceilinged buildings, steep slopes and a village feel. On Place de la Croix-Rousse, the daily market speaks loud and smells wonderful. A coffee on a terrace, a wander through the traboules of the slopes, then a pause in front of the famous Mur des Canuts, a huge trompe-l’œil mural, make for a route that is as gentle as it is surprising.
Confluence and the Rhône banks
To the south, the Confluence district blends contemporary architecture and waterside walks, crowned by the Musée des Confluences, a building of crystal and metal. The Rhône banks, laid out for pedestrians and cyclists, run from the park down to the Confluence: a perfect setting for a bike ride. On Lyad, people from Lyon share their favourite corners; it is up to you to find someone to explore them with.
